The Railway Question

Good evening, friends, How d'ya do,
I'm quite well myself, and hope you are too.
My song on the railway, will be " apropo, "
For we're determined to have it start from the Elbow.
Oh ! dear, what will the League say.
When we make this the Terminus of the Railway ?

The big guns in Grafton, hold meetings and spout,
Some want it from North, and others from South,
They despise poor Lawrence, and think us too slow,
Let them mind they're not euchred by the Elbow.
Oh dear what will Fisher say,
When we send him a picture of our Railway.

At a meeting in Grafton, a few weeks ago,
Old Braham and others endeavoured to show,
The best route would be by the Newton Boyd line,
And they had the cheek, to send us a petition to sign.
Oh ! no, not for Joe,
We're not quite so foolish at the Elbow.

Let them laugh as they like, and think they can rig us,
But we're quite prepared, to prove it in figures,
That to start from here, saves half million or so ;
And that's what gets over them at the Elbow.
Oh dear tis terrible blow,
To make them come down, to the Elbow.

All unprejudiced men, can easily see
That the terminus at Grafton, never should be,
The Surveyor's report will plainly show,
We're entitled to the railway from the Elbow.
Oh, dear ! 'twill put Foott on the go,
When he hears of the Railway, at the Elbow.

Such unprincipled men, I never met,
Doing all they can to run our country in debt,
I'm a native myself, and very proud of it,
Then you sons of Australia, don't allow them to rob it.
Oh no, we'll have our say,
And laugh at the League, when we got the Railway.

With these low remarks, I'll now bid adieu,
And at some future time the subject renew.
While we drink success, to the Lawrence Railway
Let Grafton put up, with an old bullock dray.
Oh dear, Page, Mellion, and Co.,
"You'll find one too many at the Elbow.
