LAUNCESTON Railway Silver Band yesterday transformed City Park into new worlds as visitors circled about its rotunda for Launceston City Council's Music in the Park.
Although there were no high-powered electrical fences, or malicious velociraptors, the band brought a sense of the surreal to the grounds as it performed the theme song from Steven Spielberg's 1993 blockbuster Jurassic Park .
The band also conjured up memories of Sylvester Stallone's Rocky III performance with Survivor's Eye of the Tiger, and of Mark Herman's Brassed Off with Concierto de Aranjuez. These songs and more were enjoyed by a host of families, friends and couples.
Conductor Kristy Howard shared a wide grin as she worked the audience into a steady clap for the rhythm of Skimbleshanks, The Railway Cat from Andrew Lloyd Webber's classic Cats - a particular favourite of the group.
The Launceston Railway Silver Band was originally formed to entertain the families and friends of railway workers and is this year celebrating its 110th anniversary.
The final show for 2014 will be held on Australia Day, and it will feature the City of Launceston RSL Band.
