Tramways Union Formed - Nine Members Sacked

The Brisbane Courier Tuesday 27 December 1904 p. 4.
BRISBANE TRAMWAYS COMPANY
AND THEIR EMPLOYEES.

Last Wednesday night a meeting of tramway, employees was held, and a further meeting took place on Thursday morning, at which it was almost unanimously decided to form a Tramway Employees'
Union.

Yesterday nine of the employees are reported to have been sent for by the manager (Mr. J. S. Badger), and so it was stated told that their services were dispensed with, and that they would receive two days' pay-presumably in lieu of notice. They were also, it is said informed that they could not serve two masters.

The latter remark is held by the men to imply that the cause of the dismissal is the proposed formation of the union. It is also held to be indicative of further dismissals. Mr. Badger was seen by a "Courier" representative during the day, but said he did not care to discuss the matter at present, or make any statement.
